Oakbridge and America

Hi Friends,

I have been playing lots of music lately, taking some time to enjoy the beginning of summer on the Farm and in Victoria and making some new music and planning for things to come in the late summer.  Also, we just played at the David Foster Private Concert at the Empress Hotel in Victoria this past weekend.  I am sitting in the Sea-Tac airport and am really excited to be at Oakbridge Young Life Camp near San Diego in June and back up to play a few shows and a festival or two in the late summer.  But boy-howdy are we looking super forward to releasing a couple songs, a video and touring the late-summer and fall.  Stay tuned and thanks for the love.

Oakbridge Young Life, Ramona, CA - June 1 - June 22

Clayquot Sound Theatre, Tofino, BC - July 20

Kulth Festival, Coombs BC -  July 21

Winter Tour

Hi Friends,

We are excited to be playing a slew of shows in the cold of February in Duncan, Victoria, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Calgary and Kelowna.  A new music video is also coming soon!

Video Coming Soon

Teaser - Music Video coming Soon with some hearty tour dates.
We trekked to the harvest on the prairies looking for ocean skies and fields. And to make a video resembling the search for youth, the loss of it and for something outside of us. It took 5 good friends, a van, dog, gun, mirror and wheat until we looked no further and wheeled ourselves back to the Coast.

Marching Ranges Tour

Tyson Motsenbocker are very excited to announce the Marching Ranges Tour for this autumn. Check out the dates on my shows page or here on Facebook.

And matching of stories from schooldays... We crawled astride
The peak to feast on the marching ranges flagged
By the fading shreds of the shattered stormcloud.

Summer Sleep

Greetings everyone.  The Summer has been great to relax a little bit but we are busy in the works for a Tour in the Fall and possibly another short motion picture.

We are playing September 10th with Acres of Lions at Sugar Nightclub and also September 23-25 at Rifflandia Festival - both in Victoria, BC.  We hope to announce some great things soon!

June Musical Tour

We are really excited to announce the June Musical Tour with Steph Macpherson.  Take a look at the events here.  There are a few new songs in the works that we will have for the Tour and are excited to see lots of friendly faces out!

St. Columba

Cast a Vote for the EcoTunes Songwriting Contest!

This song is a story of a Reverend who was sent to find the ‘most beautiful spot on Vancouver Island” to build a church. After searching through the ocean breezes and among miles of tall evergreens he settled on a spot around which a popular island village has now grown. We re-traced his steps in an attempt to understand his mission which the narrative of the song winds through. This song is part history and part folktale in the setting of the beauty of Vancouver Island.

We decided to make this a 1-day project and woke up at 6:15am on Wednesday May 11, mostly because this is Colin McTaggart’s day off and we needed his humor for what turned into a 5 hour trip up. We felt somewhat hypocritical in driving 10 hours in one day because we planned to put the video in a CRD contest about sustainability - but Graeme Davies hopped in and we offset our carbon emissions by carpooling. I was really excited for even the trip up as I felt it was our way of re-tracing the Reverends’ steps and reliving his mission in a very condensed way.

Bev, the beautiful lady who creates the nostalgia of the past in the intro, was kind enough to come over from her little green house located directly behind the church to tell us of some memories and history of the building and her part in the community. We had to visit her at the end of the day as well in an attempt to find Dave’s misplaced lens cap.

Originally part of this story and song involved a building called ‘The Shore’ which is directly across the street from St. Columba’s. The Shore was built 3 years ago and inhibits any view of the Inlet from the Church. Some of the townsfolk delicately protested that because St. Columba’s was built on ‘the beautiful spot on the island’ this 5-story retail and residential building of concrete should be limited to 4 stories. I felt this a little bit of the sad part of our progress and a bit of the loss of as Bev puts it, “the history of time gone past.”

Please share this and big thanks to Cathy Thicke, Rev. Joan Scandredth and Innovate Imageworks.
